Lending and borrowing

People, lent and loan accounts, and why every movement is a transfer.

  • contacts: people per book, with only a name and an optional note. Deleting one linked to an account archives it instead and says so (default, as for categories). They never signed up, so nothing else about them is stored, and they’re never sent to the AI.
  • lent accounts (money you lent; positive means they owe you) and loan accounts (money you borrowed; negative means you owe them) can link to a contact. No other kind can.
  • Every movement is a transfer, so net worth stays right. Lending Tom $200 is Checking to “Lent to Tom”; his repayment is the reverse. Interest is an expense on the loan account. Forgiving a debt is an expense or income on it.
  • contact_balances shows, per person and currency, what they owe you and what you owe them.
