Home screen dashboard

What the one dashboard call returns and how spending is counted.

One API call, GET /v1/books/{book_id}/dashboard (app/domain/dashboard.py), returns totals in the book’s currency:

  • Net worth, plus how many accounts couldn’t be converted for lack of an exchange rate.
  • Spending: this month vs last month, plus income this month.
  • Last 6 months: spending vs income.
  • Spending per category this month, every category with spending, with parent ids: the app rolls Groceries into Food and shows the top 6 (returning only 6 sub-categories would undercount the rolled-up totals).
  • Account balances, each in its own currency and converted, with whether it counts in net worth (archived accounts left out).
  • People: who owes you, and whom you owe, in each account’s currency.
  • Budget progress, most used first.
  • The 10 most recent transactions, in their own currency.

Spending is expenses minus refunds. Transfers, lending, repayments, opening balances and adjustments never count as spending. Other currencies convert at the rate on each transaction’s date. Transactions with no known rate are left out of the totals and counted in each month, category and budget, so the screen can say “1 transaction not included” instead of quietly under-reporting.
